Ecuador's mountain bike pioneers

About Biking Dutchman

Welcome to Biking Dutchman — formerly the Flying Dutchman — Ecuador's top operator for mountain bike tours, providing memorable vacations for cyclists of all abilities since 1991.

Our Story

Biking Dutchman Outfitters has been providing memorable vacations for cyclists of all abilities since 1991. Our company is based in Quito, Ecuador — a premier mountain bike destination in its own right, with an active volcano on its doorstep and the páramo within an hour's drive.

The splendour of snow-capped Andean volcanoes. The exhilaration of biking across the páramo, through cloud forest or jungle. Hundreds of miles of mostly traffic-free unpaved roads. The security of a fully equipped 4x4 backup vehicle. And knowledgeable guides to point the way.

This is Ecuador with Biking Dutchman: the pioneers, and still the best.

Why Downhill?

The scale of Ecuador's Andes turns cycling uphill into torture — so our tours are essentially downhill. Our bikes, especially the gears and brakes, meet the highest specifications: top-range Shimano components and RockShox suspension. We keep a range of frames to suit all sizes, and helmets, gloves, elbow and knee pads are provided.

On your bike! And come join us for an adventure in the Ecuadorian Andes.

Choosing the Trip That's Right for You

Mountain biking is a great source of fun and exercise for people of all ages and abilities, but like any activity there are levels of difficulty. We classify each of our tours into three categories, taking into consideration the distance covered, the terrain, weather conditions and altitude. On every trip a driver in a support vehicle closely follows the group, so anyone in need of a rest can take a break and hitch a ride to continue along with the group.

Easy

Suitable for most people in good health.

Moderate

A reasonable level of fitness — sustained endurance, hills, longer days and higher altitudes.

Challenging

Physically demanding: long days at altitude, in remote regions with tough terrain.
